United Nations Student Association (UNSA) Maastricht

www.unsamaastricht.org

The United Nations Student Association Maastricht is an interfaculty student organization following the UN SGDs as a guide for its activities. The mission statement of UNSA Maastricht reads: “to distribute information on the structure and workings of the United Nations and its subsidiary organs, as well as, education and mutual understanding amongst the peoples by conveying the fundamentals of international relations, insights into the workings of international organizations and knowledge about the countries of the world, and international affairs to its members and other interested persons”. Since its foundation in 2006, UNSA has grown over the years and has become the most international and, also, one of the biggest student organisations in Maastricht. Its 300+ members come from all the faculties of Maastricht University which is why UNSA also serves as a platform for them to get in touch with each other. 1. Model United Nations: Not only does UNSA send delegates to MUNs all over Europe every year but also do we host our own conference, EuroMUN (www.euromun.net). EuroMUN attracts every year more than 550 students from all the continents and has become one of the largest MUNs in Europe. Moreover, its Delegations Committee provides its members with an extensive debating and public-speaking training program and has obtained numerous awards at MUNs. 2. Development Aid Work: In close cooperation with 15+ international NGOs, UNSA has already successfully prepared and delegated more than 120 volunteers to development projects across the world (e.g., Brazil, India or Madagascar). 3. Local activities for students: UNSA hosts every year a career week on international politics with speakers from the EU, NATO, NGOs and so on. Besides, we offer academic lectures and panel debates on current issues. UNSA publishes its own student journal and podcast “The Maastricht Diplomat”. Last but not least, all the UNSA work is promoted by its own Marketing Committee.
