SURPASSPORT

At SURPASSPORT, we’re passionate about being active, from acquiring skills as an 8 year old to enjoying the physicality of competition at 18 to keeping active well into old age. Sport is often viewed as only for children or elite athletes, with fewer children remaining involved beyond their teens and growing concerns about sedentary lifestyle on our long-term health. Active life habits start in childhood, but adolescence brings a whole new challenge. Research confirms the persistent increase in drop-out, especially with girls, from age 12 onwards. And those that remain are increasingly experiencing burn-out due to over commitment, even though they should play multiple sports well into their teens. Coaches, parents and club officers are generally well intentioned, but make decisions based on incomplete data: an unexpected school game; the honour of playing with an older age group; an incomplete recovery from injury; or a delay in biological maturity. Uniquely, SURPASSPORT offers practical solutions to these problems, providing an individual-centric approach to team management, particularly where children play multiple sports with multiple teams and school. Knowing when a child is over-committed, or unhappy, or avoids team training prompts coach to review the situation, to have a conversation and to make an informed decision, ideally in the child’s best interests. SURPASSPORT Apps are used by schools, clubs and sporting bodies across Ireland and UK to support long-term participation, development and well-being while simplifying administration, standardising policies and providing Safeguarded communications. The goal for any underage coach is to help their kids develop as players and as people through sport, well into adulthood. The real “Win” for 13 year olds is to enjoy their sport, to return next time and less so about winning a league. Although that’s nice too.
