AGH Solar Boat is a student project that builds a zero-emission racing boat that uses 100% renewable solar energy. With the experience and knowledge we have gained, we want to go one step ahead and build a brand new, pioneering boat. Our vision is to move the idea of electromobility from the automotive industry to maritime transport. The origins of the project go back to 2015, when members of the Eco-Energy Student Research Group and the Academic Sailing Club decided to combine their passion for sailing with their knowledge of renewable energy sources and to build a solar-powered boat together. Our first boat was built using ultra-lightweight and durable composite materials, self-designed electronics and advanced steering algorithms. The boat is equipped with photovoltaic panels, which makes it an electric boat powered by a renewable energy source. AGH Solar Boat shows that new technology cannot only support the sustainable development of maritime transport, but also allows for high scores in international competitions. The team takes part in numerous solar boat races, including the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge, Solar Sport One in the Netherlands and Solarboot Regatta der TH Wildau.
