Visakha Society for Protection and Care of Animals (VSPCA)
www.vspca.orgSince 1996, the Visakha Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (VSPCA) has worked diligently improving the conditions for animals in India, while preserving vulnerable communities and ecosystems. VSPCA’s expanding initiatives include halting illegal poaching & trade-in internationally-protected sea turtles and sharks, rescuing cows, water buffaloes and calves from cultural and illegal slaughter & transportation, and, providing permanent happy sanctuaries to hundreds of dogs, cats, birds, snakes, rams, monkeys, horses, rabbits, tortoises, ducks, raptors and animals suffering severe abuse or neglect. VSPCA provides a clean and permanent home to over 1300 large and small rescued animals in our Shelter near the city as well as, at VSPCA’s "Kindness Farm.” We provide spay and neuter procedures and, vaccines and health checks to 150,000 street dogs and many thousands of cats. The population of street dogs in urban Vizag is healthier and ever-shrinking, as a result of our consistency. VSPCA promotes veganism through action and education. We are special educators to children grades 8-10 in a partnership with Law Enforcement and the National Government. We partner with governments, universities, corporations and NGOs on break-through initiatives compelling communities to join us in making our ecosystems healthy and sustainable. VSPCA provides therapy to humans who are challenged – the blind, elderly and terminally ill.
