UMKC School of Science and Engineering
sse.umkc.eduAt the UMKC School of Science and Engineering, cutting-edge technology, experimentation, learning and discovery intersect to give our students a high-quality education at an affordable price. SSE was established in 2022 through UMKC Forward, a university initiative that called for combining the complementary programs in computing, science, mathematics and engineering into a single academic unit. Graduates benefit from our location in Kansas City, one of the largest STEM workforce communities in the United States. The SSE is made up of four departments: Biological and Biomedical Systems; Computing, Analytics and Mathematics; Energy, Matter and Systems; and Natural and Built Environments. SSE also offers six professional programs to help you enhance your career - or get a head start on a new one. Programs include Civil PE Review, Computer fundamentals with CompTIA A+, Digital Marketing and Analytics Fundamentals Certificate, PMP Prep, Unmanned Aircraft Training and Web Developer Fundamentals. Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs offer a comprehensive education combining theory and actual practice leaving SSE students fully prepared for 21st-century careers. SSE is built to allow students more flexibility in completing their degree, so they can tailor their education to their passions and unique skills. This structure encourages students to gain experience in more than one area with certificates, minors and double majors, which sets our graduates apart when they enter the highly competitive job market. We are located right beside the newly constructed Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise and Research Center. The Plaster Center is home to the Innovation Studio which contains a 3D printing lab and fabrication studio to build prototypes, high-performance computing and analytics equipment and software, an FAA-approved flight simulator, a two-story drone flight-testing bay and $3 million of augmented and virtual reality equipment.
