The Design Institute for Health, a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Dell Medical School and the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin, leads profound change in health systems through design. As an embedded team of health design specialists, we’re profoundly changing every aspect of health systems to work better for people. Our multidisciplinary team uses creative problem-solving methods to deeply understand the needs of people, and then to systematically generate fresh approaches and rapidly prototype and realize solutions. We’re designing a new direction in health in which the orientation shifts to be more self-enabled rather than purely physician-led, the experiences are driven by human-centered design instead of economically-driven transactions, the approach is integrated not siloed, and the scope is broadened to health.
