Durham ADAPT, short for Durham Center of Innovation to Accelerate Discovery and Practice Transformation (ADAPT), is a VA Center of Innovation (COIN) within the Durham VA Health Care System. Founded in 1982, our center originally focused on research in primary care, but as health care delivery has expanded with technological innovation, our work has shifted to focus on evidence-based practice transformation. We aim to optimize healthcare efficiency, cost, and experience for Veterans, thus also making meaningful contributions to the scientific literature for the benefit of all Americans. Our work is driven by partnerships, both with VHA stakeholders and with our academic affiliates, Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC). Connections with VA local leadership, national program office leadership, and other COINs have facilitated the diffusion of our developments. In partnership with our academic affiliates, we support a major education objective for clinical and PhD-prepared scholars through fellowship programs and didactic course work. With so much going on in our center, we are unified by our goals of translating innovative research into practice, training the next generation of leaders in health services research, and, most importantly, serving our Veterans.
