MAJOR machines are tough, reliable and cost-effective. That is why the RSPB in Northern Ireland chose the Major Cyclone to control rushes and willow scrub in sensitive areas around Lough Beg National Nature Reserve. The RSPB NI and its Countryside and Land Management Service (CLMS) use specialist equipment and best practices to encourage regeneration of natural habitat. “It is important that the dense rushes are controlled, and willow and alder scrub are not given a chance to take over, so the land does not become unproductive,” says Paul Trimble, CLMS Business Manager at RSPB NI. “This could potentially lose the very species and habitats for which it was designated, with breeding sites being lost and flora smothered.” Paul and his team have three Cyclones altogether: one 2.8m and two 2.5m machines used at Lough Beg and on many other contract sites. “They easily handle all the rushes as well as the willow scrub and they just glance over rocks,” Paul beams. “By managing the vegetation with the Major Cyclone and increasing the suitable nesting and feeding conditions for priority birds, we are attracting more waders to nest in these ideal conditions,” continues Paul. “The Major Cyclone has been one of the reasons we are showing a marked improvement in the condition of the site while at the same time reducing operating costs and carbon emissions.” “I would recommend this mower to anyone who is looking for excellent reliability, who needs to work in the most difficult of terrains. It just does an excellent job for us and especially for the wildlife,” Paul concludes. Read the full story on our website: https://www.major-equipment.com/bringing-waders-back-from-the-brink/
