Orley Shabahang
www.orleyshabahang.comIn 1973, Geoffrey Orley and Bahram Shabahang met in the Bazaars of Isfahan. Since then, they have built a friendship and a business, selling unique and collectible antique Persian carpets. The Shabahang family has been at the center of the carpet trade for over 400 years, beginning with an ancestor who oversaw the carpet weavers in the royal workshop of King Tahmass Safavieh in the 16th Century. In 2001, they set out on a vision to create their own line of new Persian and Turkish revival carpets. Although the world was not without "Persian carpets", it was missing distinctly creative carpets made by long forgotten techniques that led to the great masterpieces considered one-of-a-kind antiques today. Through years of trial and error and thousands of miles of travel, Bahram created his current collection. In the process, he resurrected discontinued knotting techniques, re-instituted the hand spinning of wool, and built a natural color dyeing facility. All carpets are still made in villages, in the homes of weavers we individually contract. The entire process from start to finish is accomplished by hand. Orley Shabahang is proud to be the exclusive creator and vendor of these fine carpets.
