The Nieuwe of Littéraire Sociëteit De Witte (‘De Witte’), founded in 1782, is a private club that occupies a prominent niche in The Hague’s social life for over two centuries now. De Witte is situated in a monumental premises on the Plein next to the famous Mauritshuis and the Binnenhof. De Witte offers her members extensive facilities at the Club House (Plein premises). During summer club life is at the summer residence, Paviljoen De Witte, in Scheveningen. The essence of club life is still quite the same as it was in 1782, “social intercourse and going out, spending time respectably”. The more than 3.300 members engage in numerous activities through a system we call ‘tables”, (sport)clubs and committees. They organize various meetings such as: lectures, social gatherings, sports activities and trips abroad. Also there are annual member events.
