Irish Chaplaincy

www.irishchaplaincy.org.uk

We are an independent social action charity offering culturally sensitive support for Irish immigrants and other people of Irish heritage throughout England and Wales. Since 1957 we have been at the forefront of providing life affirming services for some of the most vulnerable and marginalised Irish people in Britain. Rooted in the tradition of Catholic Social Teaching, the charitable objects of the Irish Chaplaincy are: To relieve poverty and advance health amongst people of all faiths and none, and in particular those of Irish nationality or descent, and to provide advocacy on their behalf with statutory authorities and other organisations; To develop the capacity of socially and economically disadvantaged Irish persons in such a way that they are better able to identify and meet their needs and participate more fully in society. We address this with free support through these areas of work: PRISONERS: A prison visiting, information and advocacy service for Irish prisoners in Britain and their families. TRAVELLERS: Research, advocacy and education to improve the situation of Travellers within the criminal justice system. SENIORS: Pastoral outreach and befriending to alleviate the social exclusion and loneliness of older Irish people, and to offer a knowledgeable, compassionate and comforting presence for end of life issues and funeral arrangements. NEW IMMIGRANTS: Advice, pastoral support, signposting, and arranging volunteer opportunities for those Irish people who have recently arrived or are considering moving to Britain.
