For over one hundred years, the Boy Scouts of America has prepared young people for life through some of the most outstanding leadership and growth programs available nationally. Headquartered in Columbia, Missouri, Great Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America serves the youth and adult volunteers in 33 counties in central and northern Missouri. The BSA’s mission is to provide youth character development, citizenship training, self-reliance and personal growth in physical, mental and spiritual fitness through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to instill typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking. Our program opportunities for young men and women, ages 6-20, include Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring. The Scout Mission To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Scout Oath On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country And to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, Mentally awake, and morally straight. Scout Law A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.
