International Space Elevator Consortium

www.isec.org

ISEC focuses on the development of the concept of space elevators with interchange of information around the globe. We believe that the space elevator should be developed, when the material matures to enable the construction of a 100,000 km tether. The mission statement is: "... ISEC promotes the development, construction and operation of a space elevator as a revolutionary and efficient way to space for all humanity ..." ISEC's plan of action is based upon yearly themes.. The results are a Conference focus, a year-long study effort resulting in a report, and a theme for the yearly Journal, Climb. 2010 was Space Debris survivability with 2011 focusing on CNT’s. 2012 resulted in a Space Elevator Concept of Operations while 2013 is looking at tether climbers. www.isec.org ISEC holds yearly conference in Seattle, co-sponsored by Microsoft and the Museum of Flight. The obvious advantages of a space elevator transportation infrastructure can be summarized as: • Revolutionarily inexpensive to GEO • Commercial Development similar to bridge building • Routine [daily launches] • Safe [no chemical explosions from propulsion] • Permanent infrastructure (no throw-always) • 24/7/365/50 yrs. [bridge similarities] • Cargo segments exceeding 10 metric tons each • No shake-rattle-roll during launch • Easy delivery to GEO within a week • Minimum stressors and slow accelerations • Does not leave space debris in orbit
