Seattle Go Center
www.seattlego.orgSeattle Go Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and teaching the ancient Asian strategy board game, variously known as Go, Igo (囲碁), Baduk (바둑), or Weiqi (围棋, 圍棋). Seattle Go Center was established in 1995, in Seattle's University District, on NE 45th St. at I-5. The giant Go board on the side of the building is a well-known landmark. The Go Center provides a home for Seattle's Go community, open for casual play four afternoons / evenings per week, and hosting monthly tournaments and special events. Free instruction is available for beginners, and there are frequent workshops for intermediate and advanced players. "Go" is a "complete knowledge" strategy boardgame, similar to Chess in that there is no secret information and no inbuilt element of chance. Go originated in China (where it's called Weiqi) over 3000 years ago, where it was considered one of the Four Accomplishments expected of a person of refinement. Go is now enjoyed by players around the world! In Go, a handful of very simple rules give rise to layers of emergent complexity. "A minute to learn; a lifetime to master."
