LAL's main research activity is focused on particle physics which consists in the study of the ultimate components of mater, their mutual interactions, and the origin of their mass. The Laboratory has now extended its investigations to astroparticle physics and to specific areas in astrophysics as well as in cosmology - since the history of the Universe involves all fields and particles. Moreover, LAL is actively engaged in accelerator ans detector R&D. The latter requires the most advanced techniques in mechanics, electronics ans computing.
