Magic Pony Inc.
www.magic-pony.comMagic Pony is a creative studio based in Toronto, Canada. Our mission was and continues to be to inspire other creative-minded individuals to engage with art that exists all around us. We make good design accessible to our friends and guests through a pioneering combination of retail shop, exhibition space, book publishing, and educational programming. We travel the world, we host artist talks, creative workshops, art parties and product launches as means of engaging people of all ages and all walks of life. With a dynamic programming range, Magic Pony has exhibited many artists including Gary Taxali, FriendsWithYou, Kozyndan, Gary Baseman, Junko Mizuno, Jon Burgerman, Nathan Jurevicius, Tara McPherson & Team Macho. Our exhibitions have grown so in demand that we opened a second gallery called Narwhal Projects (www.narwhalprojects.com) in 2009 and began collaborating on larger projects with the AGO, Luminato Festival, Harbourfront Centre, Nuit Blanche, Toronto Tourism and The Design Exchange. We also used our passion for community to raise funds for Earthquake Relief in Japan and the Make a Wish Foundation. Founded in 2002 by Steve Cober and Kristin Weckworth, Magic Pony began as a modest venture located in Toronto's Kensington Market that focused on importing rare designer toys from Asia for a small circle of devoted collectors. A year later, operations moved to a small second-floor retail space in the Queen West Art District. Magic Pony expanded in 2004 with the addition of a curated gallery, & expanded even further in 2005, when the shop and gallery relocated to a neighbouring street-front property. In 2009, Magic Pony expanded it's exhibition space with a second gallery Narwhal and in 2014 collaborated on the exhibition This Is Not a Toy at Design Exchange (co-curated by Pharrell Williams).
