We engage the public - especially young people, to ensure that the sacrifices of Americans who fought to protect our freedoms, died, and buried or memorialized at American military cemeteries and monuments overseas remain relevant, so that future generations my live in liberty. More than 218,000 American service members are buried or memorialized away from the homeland from the Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War. The American Battle Monuments Commission (abmc.gov) is the federal agency charged with the management of the 26 American military cemeteries and 32 monuments located in 17 foreign countries.
