The American Benevolent Society was founded in 1868, one of Mexico’s first philanthropic organizations, celebrating 146 years of community service. We are an independent, non-religious, non-partisan, charity organization. We are Americans, helping our own and others with medical, financial, legal, psychological and other needs; and in addition bringing together the English speaking communities in Mexico City. The efforts of the ABS have always reflected the support of volunteers and philanthropists working together to combine resources and experiences. The ABS founded the American Hospital (which later became the ABC Medical Center) in 1886 and the American Cemetery in 1898.
