Western Project
www.western-project.comWestern Project was one of the first galleries to open in Culver City, California in the fall of 2003. We are located on La Cienega Blvd in the heart of gallery row. The gallery’s program is grounded in the language of Pop culture, be it in the form of abstract painting, sculpture, photography or video. Most of our artists have exhibited in major museums, are in museum collections or have also exhibited internationally. Whether it is subject matter, content or medium, our artists reflect the miasma of television, commerce and the digital world. Our program reflects the enigma of abstract, theoretical reality and subjective living in contemporary culture. Our exhibitions have emphasized young artists such as Patrick Lee, Ali Kheradyar, and Brian Porray as well as historical exhibitions such as Ron Athey, Bob Mizer and Tom of Finland. In 2005 we presented the controversial photographs by Marc Joseph from his American Pitbull book. In 2006, our Tom of Finland exhibition, Rough: Early Notebooks, Preliminary Drawings and Master Works, traveled to Paris, Madrid and London. In 2008 we produced: Contradictions and Complexities: Contemporary Art From India: Shobha Broota, Santana Gohain, curated by Peter Nagy. In 2011 the performance oriented exhibition, Bob Flanagan, Sheree Rose, Kim Jones, and Johanna Went; as well as Wayne White's monumental exhibition "Sand Mountain Tractor" featuring large scale puppets sculpture, and the Civil War reenactment puppet show; Rebel vs. Yankee.
