Effective Altruism Georgetown

www.eageorgetown.org

Effective Altruism Georgetown is a community of students at Georgetown University dedicated to the principles of effective altruism (EA): using evidence and reason to figure out how to benefit others as much as possible, and taking action on that basis. Having first been incubated by Yale EA, we are a proud, new addition to the strong global intellectual community that has developed around the ideas and philosophy of effective altruism. We actively seek to build and sustain a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse environment to maximize our collective social impact. We are dedicated to helping Hoyas have a greater impact by providing them with i) knowledge about how to make the world a better place, ii) relevant skills, such as increased rationality and productivity, iii) resources, such as an extensive network within the global EA community, as well as by iv) increasing and up-holding their motivation to benefit others effectively. For this purpose, we run events such as high-impact career workshops, weekend retreats, research projects, visits to EA Global conferences, discussion and reading groups, speaker events, productivity and self-care sessions, socials, and more.
