Dunlap-Stone University (Peoria, AZ) began as the International Import-Export Institute (IIEI), an international trade certification standards organization incorporated in 1995. The industry was at a turning point - what were once clerical positions were becoming professionalized. There was a need for individuals to distinguish themselves in the job market and companies needed verification of candidate’s skills. Through partnerships with industry leaders, the IIEI established specific standards and requisite bodies of knowledge that were assessed through proctored certification exams. Recognizing that no single adequate education provider existed, the IIEI expanded to develop online courses that could bridge the gap and aid students in reaching the appropriate industry standard. The Institute was rebranded as Dunlap-Stone University in 2008 to reflect the breadth and depth of available programs. What was once a distance education provider for industry certification has grown to include undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as expanded certificate offerings. Dunlap-Stone University is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). The Distance Education Accrediting Commission is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a recognized accrediting agency. DEAC is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Dunlap-Stone University is licensed by the State of Arizona to enroll students in its bachelor degree and vocational programs and to issue college credit for all of the various courses it offers.
