Beyond Germany it also stands for a special concept of management studies for the hospitality and service industries. Founded in 1925 Heidelberg Hotel Management School is THE hospitality business school for dedicated young professionals, trained chefs, waiters, receptionists who– after their few years of work experience – seek to acquire the managerial and advanced technical skills for leading positions in the industry. Today, more than 300 students from all over Germany and abroad, most in their mid-twenties, attend one of the school’s three courses, leading to EQF level 6 qualifications: • Fachschule für Hotelbetriebswirtschaft und Hotelmanagement The traditional two-year full-time management course concentrates on business subjects, leadership, IT, communication and two foreign languages. Upon passing the final examination the title „Staatlich geprüfter Betriebswirt“ is granted. • Fachschule für Gastronomie A one-year full-time management course with a very strong emphasis on practical skills. The students are admitted with three years or more of practical experience and may take the Chamber of Commerce Master Examination (as Master Chef, Waiter or Hotelier) along with the school examination of „Staatlich geprüfter Gastronom“. • Fachschule für Sommeliers A one-year full-time management course, the only one of its kind in Germany, concentrating on wine and beverage skills on top of management and communication competences granting the title of „Staatlich geprüfter Sommelier“. Through a lively alumni association, organized in regional chapters, many former students keep in touch with the school all through their professional careers. Heidelberg Hotel Management School is a state school jointly funded by the land of Baden-Württemberg and the City of Heidelberg, situated in modern premises with state-of-the-art facilities overlooking the Rhine valley.
