Cancer Focus Northern Ireland
www.cancerfocusni.orgCancer Focus Northern Ireland is a local charity working to help individuals and their families who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis. In addition to a range of support services, we deliver a number of cancer prevention programmes right across Northern Ireland to help communities take positive steps to a healthier life and lower their risk of cancer. We are determined to bring a more hopeful future through the ground-breaking research we fund at Queen’s University, Belfast. Cancer Focus NI offers: Care We provide one-to-one and group support for people who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis and their family members. We provide a range of therapies and activities that can support people at each stage of their cancer experience. Prevention Our Cancer Prevention department runs projects throughout Northern Ireland for people of all ages, to increase cancer awareness and lower cancer risk. Some projects include our free Schools Health Education Programme, Stop Smoking support service and Keeping Well vans. Campaigning We run various annual awareness campaigns including Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Bowel Cancer Awareness Month in April and Men's Health Week in June. We also work with politicians and decision makers to develop legislation that helps us look after our own health. Research We promote and support internationally competitive, high quality research into causes, treatment and prevention of cancer. Having invested over £11 million we are a major funder of Cancer Research in Northern Ireland. Cancers previously thought to be incurable are now being treated successfully as a result of research. Fundraising Fundraising has always been at the forefront of our activities as we rely on public generosity to fund most of our work. There are lots of ways to get involved and we have something to suit everyone. We have a dedicated fundraising team who work with you to make your fundraising a great success!
