Blue Dot Climate Insurance (BDCI) is an independent brokerage and management firm that provides environmental insurance underwriting, brokering and other support for activities that help our climate. Examples are brownfield cleanup and redevelopment; wetlands preservation and enhancement; forest-related carbon credits; and renewable energy. BDCI was founded in the spring of 2020 by a team of professionals with decades of experience providing legal, brokerage, underwriting and management services. BDCI creates and provides customized, turn-key environmental insurance products and services. Our primary focus is on brownfield cleanup and redevelopment through our Cost Cap product available under the trade name Remedial Environmental Site Cleanup Expense (RESCUE) and provided by an A-rated and otherwise outstanding Insurer (Markel). Our ability to provide Cost Cap enables us, in turn, to help Owner, Contractors and others enter into the same sort of Fixed Price Clean contracts that, up until 2011, were used to clean up and redevelop some of the largest and most complex brownfield sites in the U.S. (e.g., McClellan Air Force Base; Portland Bangor Waste Oil (with its 3,000 PRPs); Fort Ord Army Base, and others. That access largely stopped for a decade (2011-2020) when all Major Insurers stopped offering Cost Cap. BDCI also provides services with respect to: - Wetlands preservation/enhancement, with insurance that uniquely and otherwise best satisfies the Army Corps 2008 regulatory demands for the purchase/sale of credits for the wetlands; - Renewables (e.g., wind and solar farms); and - Forest-Related Carbon Credits. BDCI-provided options include not just traditional insurance but also captive insurance and escrows, some of which are particularly suited for larger Insureds and/or Projects and may offer extended (e.g., >10-year) coverage as well as other financial advantages not otherwise available.
