KIN Center for Digital Innovation

www.kinresearch.nl

The KIN Center for Digital Innovation aims to bring together academia and practice by actively involving both researchers and professionals in understanding the social and long-term consequences of digital innovations in organizations. Join our interactive workshops, executive education programs, business network or informal KINTalks. We are part of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Our research focuses on the development, use, implications and business value of digital innovations. This research is conducted by a multi-disciplinary group of researchers with academic backgrounds in business administration, sociology, communication science, anthropology, philosophy, engineering, industrial design, and computer science. Typical to KIN is its ‘embedded research’: research in close collaboration with industry partners and the emphasis on discussing research. In the two monthly “KINcubator” sessions, we discuss our ongoing research projects, while the monthly ‘reading group’ sessions serve to discuss classics on a particular theory or perspective and during our seminars and workshops, academic scholars from other universities present their research. Each year at the end of the Spring semester, we organize the KIN Summer School during which around 20 international late PhD candidates and junior faculties engage with a group of five senior international scholars to learn more about KIN-related research. Our research is organized in projects where teams of PhD, junior and senior researchers conduct embedded research. Engagement with industry is also institutionalized by our KINTalks: a series of seminars during which managers, entrepreneurs, and policy makers discuss novel ideas in relation to organizing for digital innovation. We use our research insights and industry connections also in our teaching at bachelor, master, and PhD levels as well as various part-time and executive training programs.
