Recovery is New Zealand’s single product stewardship scheme for the safe disposal of refrigerants. It is a voluntary scheme that is accredited by the Ministry for the Environment under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008. We represent all sectors of the New Zealand refrigerant industry. Operating a national refrigerant gas cylinder collection service, Recovery aims to maximise the recovery, reclamation and safe destruction of contaminated, surplus and unwanted synthetic greenhouse gas refrigerants and, in doing so, minimise emissions into our atmosphere. Recovered refrigerants are collected at Recovery Centres located at Pattons branches nationwide and transported to a central, secure storage facility where they are processed and/or destroyed using cost-effective, environmentally safe technology. Recovery is funded by a voluntary Advanced Destruction Fee (ADF) that is paid by most bulk importers of Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (SGGs). The Recovery service is free to all holders of SGG refrigerants.
