www.sheffield.ac.ukThe Sheffield Methods is a unique institution at the heart of the Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Sheffield, that delivers high-level teaching of research methods at all levels right from undergraduate degrees to Masters and PhD training. Using research methodology to lead the conversation the SMI crosses the usual academic discipline boundaries to facilitate interdisciplinary research that works to answer some of society’s big questions. The Sheffield Methods Institute delivers world-class teaching and training of research methods at all levels through our interdisciplinary courses: • BA in Applied Social Sciences • BA in Quantitative Social Sciences • MA in Social Research • MSc in Social Analytics with the Data Analytics and Society Centre for Doctoral Training • Social Sciences Doctoral Training Programme in collaboration with the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership for PhD studentships. Students at all levels receive research methods training at the SMI alongside the discipline based study in departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Sheffield Methods Institute is the only institution in the UK where the research methods training has been designed to meet and exceed the ESRC’s training guidelines. The Sheffield Methods Institute is home to the The Sheffield Q-Step Centre and delivers the undergraduate degree courses which are part of Q-Step programme. The £19.5 million programme funded by the Nuffield Foundation, ESRC and HEFCE, has been designed to create a step change in the nation’s quantitative skills starting with social science students at 15 universities, with the aim to fulfill a skills gap of quantitatively trained social science graduates. http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/q-step
