In the 21st century literacy has grown to include many different facets of everyday life. At REACH Literacy we concentrate on three areas: Reading: Adult learners come to us with a wide range of readign skills--from those starting with learning the alphabet and basic phonics skills to those needing assistance with reading comprehension or pre-GED refreshers. our staff works with the learners to find their reading level and matches tutors who can assist at that level. Tutoring sessions are held weekly to help learners succeed. Writing: Reading and writing go hand in hand. Whether it is writing names, letter writing, or learning how to fill out a job application, tutors and learners work together to meet the goals set by the learner. Living: Having low literacy skills affects more than just reading a book or writing a letter. Adult learners build the self-confidence to take on new challenges such as finding a job or getting a promotion, getting a library card, navigating the internet or overcoming other obstacles.
