Hoshizora Foundation
www.hoshizora.orgHoshizora was born from an awareness of the problems of street children in Indonesia. The idea and concept of Hoshizora was created by six Indonesian university students studying in Japan, who looked for a way to help underprivileged Indonesian children gain access to education. It was a big surprise for them when they realized that they could “buy” an education for an unfortunate child in Indonesia with one-day of spending money. They began saving 1000 yen a month, an amount equal to a student’s shopping for one day, and sent it to Indonesia to support a child’s education in Indonesia. More and more people continued to join in this activity, and it was made into an official organization on May 2nd, 2006. Hoshizora launched its first generation of foster siblings on May 20th, 2006, connecting sponsors (Kakak Bintang = elder siblings) to unfortunate children in Indonesia (Adik Bintang = younger siblings) who lacked access to education. Currently, Hoshizora is growing into a worldwide network and its members, mainly in Japan and Indonesia, are working together to support children’s education in Indonesia.
