The Open Innovation Team works with academics and other experts to generate analysis and ideas for policy. A UK government unit, we operate a consultancy service to support colleagues in central government and other parts of the public sector. Recent customers have included the Cabinet Office, Department for Education, Ministry of Justice, Home Office and Department for Culture, Media and Sport. As well as charging customers for project work, we also receive income from partnership deals. We currently have four partner universities - Brunel University London, University of Essex, Lancaster University, and the University of York - but we work with academics from all UK universities. Our projects are usually a mix of the following: Engagement – We facilitate workshops, seminars, visits, conferences and networking events that bring officials and outside experts together to share insights and ideas. Analysis – We work with academics and other experts to research and explain the latest evidence on topics we’ve been asked to look at, and we advise on what this evidence means for policy. Ideas – We work with leading thinkers to generate, develop, and test new ideas that our customers might like to take forward.
