Blueberry is a joint venture company set up and owned equally by HBK and Dewesoft, who are both leading manufacturers of data acquisition systems (DAQs).The mission of Blueberry-DAQ is to create an open data acquisition system platform for the Test & Measurement industry (T&M). T&M users and system integrators in all industries have long been hindered by the challenges of integrating different measurement devices into a single system. Together, both organisations intend to change this, with a common Blueberry-DAQ Software Development Kit (SDK) that covers device-backbones, embedded software components, standard communication interfaces and protocols - all core, but non-differentiating elements in T&M systems. The independent Blueberry-DAQ team is standardising a platform-backbone for next-generation DAQs. The focus is to build a stable, scalable ecosystem of hardware, firmware and software for both parent companies and others who share the open DAQ architecture vision. All future Blueberry SDK compliant products will be easily integrated into a single measurement system, no matter which programming language applications are written in. This will allow an unprecedented level of interoperability in T&M. Resulting efficiencies will greatly reduce engineering effort for testing and R&D. Blueberry SDK builds on other industry standards including PCIe, Ethernet, TSN, IEEE 1588v2 (PTP), IEEE 802.1AS-2020, OPC UA and many others. In the future, other DAQ companies will be invited to contribute to and use the Blueberry SDK Standard. Dewesoft and HBK are equal partners in Blueberry-DAQ. Their cooperation is focused purely on standardising common building blocks, including an open Blueberry SDK to the benefit of the entire T&M ecosystem. Both companies remain competitors in the market and have no intention of merging. The Blueberry-DAQ SDK is coming in 2023.
