Infant Nurture
www.infantnurture.com.auWe love breastmilk, and we love supporting breastfeeding! Why, you might ask? First of all, breastmilk comes in two attractive containers, and it is high enough off the floor that the cat can’t get it. But really, we love breastmilk & supporting breastfeeding because it’s our way of making a difference. We started Infant Nurture as a social enterprise when we learned that 820,000 children’s lives could be saved every year if all children were optimally breastfed (source: WHO). That’s 2,246 children per day, or 3 children every 2 minutes. Why is this? Because suboptimal breastfeeding results in higher infant mortality as a result of reduced protection against preventable infections, chronic diseases and gastrointestinal infections. The impact is most pronounced in developing nations where access to clean water, sanitation and medical care may be reduced. So how will we do this? Well, we are delivering Breastfeeding & Return to Work seminars in developed nations and donating 50% of profits to breastfeeding support organisations in developing nations. Supporting businesses to support breastfeeding parents helps maintain workplace diversity, improves morale, supports employee retention and improves health outcomes for babies. Donating to breastfeeding support organisations in developing nations improves survival rates in vulnerable children. It’s a win-win-win! Though we are just starting out, we always want to stay true to our roots: breastfeeding support and making the world a better place. Founder Kerry Smith Has a Certificate IV in breastfeeding education (counselling & community) and volunteered on a national breastfeeding helpline for over 6 years. Working in the corporate sector for over twenty three years to senior management level, Kerry has successfully returned to work while breastfeeding twice, and has supported colleagues through delivery of breastfeeding & return to work seminars for over ten years.
