The GardenWorks Project
www.gardenworksproject.orgThe GardenWorks Project is registered 501c3 nonprofit working to relieve hunger in Chicago's west suburbs by providing families in need of food assistance with home vegetable gardens and coaching. We help families who would otherwise be unable to grow their own food because of financial need, disability, or advanced age. We teach organic vegetable gardening in a way that promotes self-sufficiency, pride, and good stewardship of the Earth. Our families, all clients of local food pantries, range from toddlers to grandparents, new gardeners to those with some experience. Our volunteers are Master Gardeners, professional landscapers, backyard hobby gardeners, and those with no gardening experience but wish to learn on the job. Our volunteers, clients, food pantry partners, and dedicated individual and corporate donors are working together to create a stronger, hyper-local food system that benefits those who need it most. Programs: Home Gardening Program - Residential gardens for families facing food insecurity. Food Growers Network - Supporting home and community growers with tool lending, supplies, and educational resources. Suburban Agriculture Resource Center - Located in West Chicago, IL, our Resource Center serves as the hub for our operations, and during open hours in spring and summer, a place to obtain tools, seeds, raised bed gardens, and organic gardening education.
