China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) is a national public foundation founded in March 1989 in Beijing. The mission of CYDF is to empower young people to build capacity by providing aid services, carrying out social advocacy, and giving a voice to the interests of young people. Project Hope, launched by CYDF in October 1989, is one of the most well-known and widely participated philanthropic programs in China. The mission of Project Hope is to provide every child with the opportunity to develop, learn, and thrive. On the principle of common mission and values, CYDF has established partnerships with 33 foundations at both provincial level and municipal level, as authorized and envisaged by the CYDF service trademark. In providing aid and support to the underserved, Project Hope has played a significant role in advocating ethics, addressing social problems, and promoting widespread national reform. At the close of 2013, Project Hope raised a cumulative 9.76 billion RMB (3.17 billion of which was raised by CYDF); aided 4,953,743 impoverished rural students; and built 18,335 Hope Primary Schools. Additional achievements of Project Hope include: 20,604 Mini Libraries; 926 Computer Labs; 2,850 Hope Kitchens; 5,959 Happy Playgrounds; 924 Music Classrooms; 320 Arts Classrooms; 565 sets of digital movie projection; 78,468 rural primary school teachers trained; 10 charity vocational schools sponsored; 5 Hope Communities; 22 Hope Hospitals and 507 Hope Clinics. Every 3 out of 1,000 Chinese students have received a Project Hope scholarship, and every 7 out of 100 rural elementary schools in China are Hope Elementary Schools. In addition to Project Hope, CYDF is also dedicated to efforts that enagage young people in environment protection, science exploration and innovation, voluntary service and social entreprenuership. In 2013, CYDF was again rated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs as a 5A foundation.
