Cytosystems Ltd is a next generation digital pathology company developing non-invasive cancer diagnostic and stratification technologies initially for the management of bladder cancer. Established in 2006 following ground-braking research at the Universities of Cambridge and Aberdeen, UK, Cytosystems is now a clinical-stage commercial development company. The company’s first product, BladderLight®, is an integrated and automated digital pathology solution using a big data systems approach for the diagnosis and monitoring of bladder cancer. The combination of three proprietary component technologies make up BladderLight®: a single use cell collection device, a clinically validated MCM2 biomarker, plus other multiplexed markers, and digital imaging and automated analysis. This can provide a simple, inexpensive and reliable alternative to cystoscopy. Cytosystems has developed two patent-pending technologies: a point of care cell collection device which optimizes analyte quality at point of patient care and the use of artificial intelligence pattern recognition software to interrogate and objectively classify individual urothelial cells as cancer positive or negative. This whole-cell approach can help with clinical decision making and provides a highly sensitive and specific test which achieves the challenging performance levels demanded of a non-invasive test by patients and clinicians.
