The symbolism of tea(n)diplomacy; The word “tea” is universally synonymous with Sri Lanka and, it globally represents hospitality, inclusivity, warmth, and the gentle, almost spiritual embrace of humanity. tea(n)diplomacy believes these values deeply represent the true Sri Lankan identity, or if not, it should be what we certainly aspire towards. Therefore, tea represents the universal values that we all share, particularly underpinned by compassion; the side of human nature that yearns not only for inner but also universal peace. The word “diplomacy” represents, on the other hand, mostly a rational endeavor; the side of human nature of calculating costs and benefits to attain the best interests of each party. It is an intellectual pursuit engaged by strategic players. According to the belief of tea(n)diplomacy, the combination of these two elements are required to move humanity to a peaceful and prosperous future. Together, they serve cups of much-needed wisdom and cups of compassionate strategy leading to non-zero-sum outcomes and peaceful existence. tea(n)diplomacy wants to ease and reduce the suffering of humans and sentient life forms by understanding and teaching peaceful existence. tea(n)diplomacy is dedicated to understanding the phenomena of peace and develop strategies to foster peace between peoples. It is an apolitical movement and has academic and public education objectives. tea(n)diplomacy does not comment on contemporary events or criticises current policies with an activist mindset. This is to maintain a neutral and objective state of affairs. Its main purposes are to develop and share knowledge about peaceful existence. tea(n)diplomacy will conduct its affairs based on the four kinds of hospitality; generosity, pleasant speech, meaningful livelihood, and equality.
