AFIRE Chicago
www.afirechicago.orgThe Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights & Empowerment (AFIRE) is a grassroots community organization that builds the capacity of Filipino/a/xs* to organize on issues of social, racial, and economic justice that affect undocumented immigrants, domestic workers, seniors, and youth. * We use Filipino/a/x as shorthand for Filipino/Filipina/Filipinx to honor all gender identities. VISION: We envision and work towards a Filipino/a/x community that centers the leadership of people who are most affected by structural injustice and organizes toward progressive social change. VALUES: -We believe in anchoring our work in the Filipino/a/x principles of bayanihan (people working together), kapitbahayan (neighborly concern), and damayan (community mutual help). -We believe in creating programs that are grounded in popular education and address issues through an intersectional lens to deepen our understanding of the unique experiences of our community. -We believe in maintaining diverse spaces for civic reflection that cultivate collective action and a shared vision for systems change. -We believe in supporting the leadership of people who are most affected by structural injustices, so they can lead movements toward freedom and liberation for all people.
