Bronx Community Health Leaders is a volunteer organization founded at the Montefiore Family Health Clinic in 2014. BxCHL is made up of diverse pre-health students from across NYC with expanding membership. Leaders are required to volunteer in the clinic, and learn about the healthcare environment by participating in patient support groups and clinic initiatives. Leadership is the second component of the program, requiring each volunteer to either create their own project within the clinic to fulfill a health need in the Bronx, or to further develop existing projects. Weekly meetings encompass guest speakers, leadership presentations, team-based workshops and case studies. Leaders also have the opportunity to shadow healthcare professional in clinic and have access to a wide range of pre-health resources.
