Martin Risseeuw is an ambitious designer based in Amsterdam. After finishing his studies in interaction design, he started a bachelor programme of Interactive/Media/Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. While following this study he got involved in the maker movement and started the Fab Academy, course taught by MIT professor Neil A Gershenfeld based on the “How to make almost anything” MIT course. Following this course, Martin developed the ability to rapid prototype and learned about different production techniques. During his studies he developed a big interest in Social Design and interaction design. Martin’s view on the world is how to improve interactions, products and even society. Design is to support the user in reaching their goals and decision making. A design should be functional and intuitive. Martin’s opinion is that the user should not notice something is designed, design should feel natural. The user should think it’s logical a product or interaction works or behaves the way it does. Most of the times this means as little design as possible leaving out the distractions. In the end leaving out the distractions will add to the beauty of a product by being more clear and have a functional identity. Martin is passionate about many different creative fields. One can find him walking through Amsterdam taking pictures or spending hours listening to music. He finds his inspiration in everyday life and artist & designers such as: Dieter Rams, Jonathan Ive, Aaron Koblin and many others.
