We are a not-for-profit social enterprise in Eastern Ontario, established to help individuals, communities and organizations take steps to create a just, beautiful and regenerated world. Working together with partners in government, other not-for-profits, businesses, schools, and with neighbours and friends, our goal is to spark discussions and inspire action for community resilience, land and water restoration, local food security, and deep green buildings and schools. We are based on the shores of the majestic St. Lawrence River at the site of the historic Maitland Tower. The Maitland Tower site – itself undergoing a renaissance and registered as a Living Community Challenge project – provides us with the ideal setting to host programs and projects that will engage and inspire. We are guided by one burning question about the future: “What does good look like?” Often the choices before us to make progress are about being “less bad”. We want to talk about a good future. What does that mean for you? For your family? At home? At work? At school? Credit for inspiring us with this simple yet profound question goes to the visionary designer and architect, fellow Canadian Jason McLennan, who founded the International Living Future Institute and used this question as the foundation for a suite of standards from green buildings to product development to organizational policies and culture. They all ask us to recognize that each choice we have, each decision we make, has the potential to make the world a better place.
