Cerebral Palsy Midlands is a third sector organisation whose aim is to empower and support people with cerebral palsy and other related disabilities from across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Based in Harborne, Birmingham, the charity runs a community centre that provides daycare and fufiling activities, training and educational courses for adults over the age of 19, as well as providing advocacy and advice through its "URconnectABLE" service. Cerebral Palsy Midlands aims to empower people in every aspect of their life, to support individuals in attaining greater everyday skills and to develop their unique talents. The charity achieves this by following a person centred approach through its work. It is human nature for individuals to strive to achieve success in their chosen field, as well as having recognition of this achievement. Cerebral Palsy Midlands fully believes that everyone has the right to be an active citizen, regardless of disability. The charity runs fulfiling projects in Art and Music that supports people in developing their skills and talents, as well as showcasing these talents. Our Art and Music projects ("VeraNicArt" and "Being Heard" respectively") are facilitated by a freelance artist and musician, both of whom skillfully support people in developing these talents. Our artists very recently had an art exhibition in the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, entitled "Empowered". Our "URconnectABLE" service gives valuable advice to people, their families and carers concerning the benefit system and their rights, as well as supporting with other issues such as housing, general welfare and accessing services. Our charity also supports people in developing their life skills. We run classes in literacy and numeracy, IT, group exercise and cooking, for example. We also firmly believe in social interaction for people and attaining friendships, which is encouraged through regular social events and short break holidays throughout the year.
