44 Degrees North Web Design

www.44degreesnorth.com

I create websites for small businesses, nonprofits, farms, and organizatios in Vermont. I ride bikes mostly on dirt (and also on snow), ski on snow, and play tunes on the radio once a week. I live in Burlington, VT and have an overwhelming affinity for the Pacific Northwest. I take pictures with my phone, my brother owns a farm, and I have a dog named Wyatt. My approach to my work is that just because we can do something, it doesn't necessarily mean we should. Oftentimes, designers add features, widgets, apps, plugins, whatever that require regular maintenance or just end up breaking. This can be frustrating when a business or organization wants to manage small fixes and edits on their own websites. Ultimately, it seems to waste everyone's time and money. So, I mainly design on Squarespace: it works, it looks great, it's managed from top to bottom (avoiding widget/plugin concern, above) it has very streamlined and contemporary features (e.g. video banners and cover pages, contact forms, email marketing, e-commerce, blogging, events feeds/calendars/pages, social media integration) incorporated within the platform–not by third parties–and it is easy to 'handover the keys' to the website owner when the design is complete.
