ArcticStern
www.arcticstern.comSo here we are, young adventurers, all driven by a desire to explore, a sensitivity to current environmental issues, and a desire to push our limits, as individuals and as a team. On September 10th 2023, the Whitbread, legendary regatta of 1973, will come back to life under the name Ocean Globe Race 2023. It consists of sailing a world tour in 9 months. It is the first time in 50 years that a regatta of this calibre has been organised for amateurs and lovers of traditional sailing. This regatta follows the original route of the 1973 Withbread, through the three capes: Cape Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn. Three stopovers have yet to be defined. The "retro" aspect of the race is one of the most fascinating thing about this regatta, designed for amateur sailors with a passion for traditional sailing. Only sailboat designed before 1988 and equipped with traditional navigation systems will be allowed: no GPS, no computers, no routing simulations. Not even electronic music, only audio cassettes as in 1973! Yes, we are going to take part in this incredible adventure and be part of this historic moment! For this mythical race, our goal is to complete this round-the-world trip as quickly as possible. But our ambition doesn't stop there: we want to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to draw attention to the values that bring us together. ArcticStern has four missions that are important to us and that we want to undertake before, during and after the race: - Raise public awareness about environmental issues; - Share our sailing experiences; - Encourage simple living and ecoresponsibility; - Participate in scientific research on the marine environment.
