The Company was founded in 1357 by merchants in York. Today the Company consists of around 160 members, all successful business and professional people predominantly based in Yorkshire. The Company is the trustee of 2 charitable trusts. The first maintains and operates the magnificent old hall which the Company has owned since its construction in 1357. Through the second trust the Company provides support for enterprise education in the schools of York and the region. The Hall is open daily as a fully accredited museum with interesting collections of furniture, art and silver on display against the backdrop of the beautifully preserved medieval architecture. The Hall is also available for weddings, conferences, dinners and gatherings of all types. The Core Purposes of the Company are: • To maintain and improve the Hall for the education and enjoyment of the public and as an important place of business. • To be an active force in the economic development of the City of York and the surrounding region. • To seek to identify, encourage and inspire young entrepreneurs in York and the surrounding area. • To provide mutual benefit, support and friendship to fellow Members of the Company. • To fulfil the charitable objectives of The Company through the support of its Members. • To continue to uphold the Christian Tradition of The Company whilst remaining open to all faiths and none.
