The Academy of Health Care Management was established as a result of long-term cooperation between healthcare managers, CMC Graduate School of Business faculty, public sector officials and foreign colleagues from academic institutions interested in passing on their knowledge and experience in the health care arena. All of these groups had a common interest in health care reform, and in particular reforms within the Czech Republic. Together their mission is to help create an effective and economical healthcare system in the Czech Republic. Experience with the teaching methods employed by American MBA programs (DePaul and Thunderbird) enabled us to acquire an understanding of the content and organization of MBA study at an international level. From here it was but a small step to the creation of a specialized MBA Healthcare program. Our program is built on the foundation of the valuable experience we gained through our long-term cooperation with professors from Auburn University College of Business. In November 2008 we have started MBA program in Healthcare Management with 33 participants. Next cohort was open in March 2009. Because of large extent of our Health Care Management activities it was decided for that purpose to create special educational platform Academy of Health Care Management. Under this new umbrella we have opened 7 cohorts, the last one, the 9th, in January 2016. In addition to the Healthcare MBA, the Academy continues to run seminars reflecting the on-going issues – such as the financial crisis, economic stagnation and its effect on the development of healthcare, the legal aspects in medical care, and anticipated organizational changes in the Czech Republic and the European Union.
