The Swedish University Computer Network (Sunet) is the National Research and Education Network in Sweden. We aim to provide Swedish universities and colleges with access to well-developed and effective national and international data communication, national academic identity infrastructure and related services that meet their needs, whatever their geographical location. Sunet was formed in the early 1980s as a research and development project. A decade later Sunet paved the way for the establishment of the general Internet in Sweden. Today, Sunet is part of the Swedish Research Council and connects Sweden via 8400 km of nationwide fiber.
