As our political environment gets more and more toxic, as the extremes get further and further apart, as thoughtful people opt out of politics and policy creation, the worse the problem gets. And that is not ok. We need those who believe in civil discourse, in bipartisanship and compromise, and in setting a better example for the next generation of elected officials to step forward -- not opt out. We need a roadmap to restore civility and ethics and trust in our governmental bodies. We need leadership at every level -- from our elected officials to our neighborhoods. We need to quit labeling and segregating ourselves. We need to quit sliding down the slippery slope before we get so far down we can’t get back up. To be clear, this isn't about one person or one election. The problem is with OUR political culture (yes, all of us) which is slow to change and needs a lot of patience and participation.
