As a lawyer enrolled with the São Paulo Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) since 1996, Luciano Soussumi is a Bachelor of Laws from Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas [United Metropolitan Colleges], in São Paulo. Specialization Course in Economic Criminal Law and Crimes against the Financial and Tax System from Escola de Direito de São Paulo – EDESP/FGV [São Paulo Law School/Getulio Vargas Foundation]); and Criminal Law and Criminal Procedural Law from Escola Paulista de Direito (Paulista Law School) – EPD/SP. Specialization in Economic Criminal Law from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, via educational agreement with the Instituto Brasileiro de Ciências Criminais (The Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences) - IBCCRIM. Started his legal career as a law intern at law office Di Pierro, Puoli & Penteado Advogados, from 1990 to 1992; trainee at Jaú Construtora e Incorporadora (a construction & property development company), later on acting as a trainee at Banco Fenícia S/A (Arapuã Finance Firm) from 1993 to 1995. Six months after his Bachelor’s degree, he became an associate lawyer at Di Pierro & Penteado Advogados law office, where he drew the first lessons in his career as a fully-fledged lawyer (1996 to 2002). Six years later, he became a founding partner of Rosenthal & Soussumi Advogados law firm, where he stayed until April 2008. Member of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM), the São Paulo State Lawyers’ Institute (IASP), the São Paulo State Criminal Law Academy (APDCRIM), and the São Paulo State Lawyers’ Association (AASP). Actively involved in a number of presentations, seminars and specialization courses. By way of Administrative Ruling no. 348/08/PR, Luciano has been appointed as Criminal Law Commission Coordinator at the São Paulo State Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association.
