As a Health Unit, we provide programs and services that promote healthy living, prevent illness and injury and prevent disease. Public health programs cover a range of topics for all ages and stages of life. To encourage healthy living, we promote healthy eating, becoming tobacco-free, being physically active and taking care of your oral health. We support families before and during pregnancy, and provide resources and information to support the healthy growth and development of children. We also protect the public's health by inspecting food premises to ensure food is handled and stored safely, and providing food safety training to restaurant staff. We advise on well water safety and investigate environmental hazards. We monitor and investigate disease outbreaks, and encourage vaccination as a way to reduce the risk of illness.
