Established in 1992, Leipzig International School is a charitable organization which runs a school with currently 950 children from over 70 countries, and 190 teaching and administrative staff. The school has grown and developed significantly, now operates at two locations: the Leipzig International Kindergarten and the Primary/Secondary School campus. LIS is a state-recognized comprehensive school based in the districts of Schleußig (LIS) and Plagwitz (LIK). The children's day care centre offers a full-day programme (07:00-18:00) for children from 1 to 6 years with an integrated pre-school. To enter primary school, which covers the classes 1-5, it is not necessary already to speak good English, since an individually coordinated language support programme is offered.
